Summer Wardrobe Necessities

Summer Wardrobe Essentials

See the full look here.

Rather than completely redesigning your wardrobe each season, I’m all about finding transitional pieces that can carry you for multiple months and seasons throughout the year. And although summer might soon be coming to an end, I’m not quite ready to let it go.

With that it mind, here are my four top summer wardrobe necessities… because not all good things need to change.

  1. The Sandal

There are two ways to interpret the summer sandal. There’s the flat sandal and then there’s the heeled sandal. And whether you’re investing in one of these styles — or both — look for a shoe that will last while also standing the test of time. Although it might seem ‘cheaper’ to go for less expensive alternatives, I suggest finding shoes that will last (see my post on Investment Shoes Under $150 for more). If you find a pair of classic sandals, the style will last you for years. So you want to make sure the shoe will last that long as well.

  2. The Short

We all know what it’s like to be caught in summer heat without the right clothing. So you’ll understand the importance of a good pair of shorts in your wardrobe. Whether it’s longer pair of shorts, or cut-off denim, find a pair that will always make you comfortable. It’s never fun to pull at a pair of too small shorts. You want to be comfortable while being stylish, so make sure you find shorts that can do both.

  3. The Capri

As important as shorts are in a summer wardrobe, I also don’t like being without a good pair of capris in the summer. To add versatility in my wardrobe, I especially like to roll regular length jeans, giving a crop look without being limited by the style. In places where summers don’t get to scorching degrees, a capri can be a good day-to-night look that will keep you warm in the night-time breeze. You can see one of my styled summer capri looks here.

  4. The Dress

Obviously there is very little more ambiguous than the classification of a ‘dress’. There are long dresses, short dresses, fancy dresses and casual dresses. If you wanted to, you could probably get away with wearing nothing but dresses all summer long.

But when looking for the perfect everyday summer dress, look for something that is long enough to keep you comfortable and short enough to keep you cool. Make sure it’s a style (or styles) that you are comfortable in. When it’s hot out, the last thing you want to be doing is pulling at your clothes and wishing you had something better on. My favorite is an a-line dress. I feel good in the style, and it can take me from a sandy beach to a dinner date without even trying.

The Birthday Edit

Birthday Wishlist (1)

August is my birthday month… and with birthdays come wishlists. These are some of the items I’ve been craving lately, and I think each one makes a perfect gift for someone special in your life.

  1. St. Tropez Self Tanning Set

I love St. Tropez self tanners and when I found this from the Nordstrom sale it looked too good to pass up.

  2. Blue Mirror Ray-Bans

I’ve been wanting some gold Ray-Bans for a while now. I’m a big lover of gold accessories, so I think it only makes sense to have some good gold aviators. I’m not sure if I’m going to go for a more colorful pair, like the ones linked, or the original gold color with black lenses.

  3. Pave Bar Necklace

I have been on the lookout for the perfect bar necklace and this pave necklace from Adina Reyter is a top contender. I love the gold and diamonds and think it would be a perfect everyday jewelry addition.

  4. Kate Spade Bracelet

I linked this in my summer edit, but I’m still not over this knot bracelet from Kate Spade. I think it would work so well stacked with other items, or on it’s own.

  5. Cole Haan Flats

I love these Tali ballet flats from Cole Hann, especially because of the bow on top.

  6. Cutting Board Set

Honestly, I’ve been day-dreaming about the cutting board set from Thirstystone. I love how it gives you a holder for the boards, and think it would make a great addition to my kitchen countertop.

Is a Wallet on a Chain worth it?

See the full look here.

The WOC or wallet on a chain seems to be something people either love or they hate.

Do you like to carry everything with you at all times? Then maybe the WOC isn’t for you.

WOC’s are not handbag replacements. A wallet on a chain probably won’t be your be-all-end-all bag. Whether it’s a bottle of hand-sanitizer or your most loved compact, you’re going to find something you want to bring with you that a wallet on a chain isn’t going to carry.

Now, that being said, WOCs have become such a staple fashion accessory that you can find them in all different shapes and sizes. From larger sizes, like the Chanel WOC that brought the style into fashion, to my Prada WOC (or even smaller versions), your choices when it comes to a wallet on the chain have never been more endless.

But the question I found myself asking before the purchase, and the question many of you are probably asking yourself is: is a wallet on a chain worth it?

For me, it was. And here’s why:

  1. Versatility

Yes, this is a wallet. No, it won’t fit all of your things. But it will, on occasion, have the multi-tasking ability to be both. Are you carrying a work tote but wanting to run out for a lunch meeting? Grab your WOC. Going on an overnight trip and don’t want to worry about what bag you’ll bring if you go out? Bring your WOC.

  2. Flexibility

I don’t know about you, but I hate carrying a heavy bag. I know a lot of us put up with it for style, and I’m all for a handbag completing an outfit, but there is just no way you are going to see me lugging around a 10-lb bag when I’m in the city for 8 hours. My WOC, on the other hand, is so light sometimes I literally forget I’m wearing it.

  3. Simplicity

As much as I adore my handbags and as much as I love choosing the exact right one for each outfit, there is something really great about being able to take the decision out of the choice. When I’m just running to the grocery store, or taking my dog for a walk, I do not want to deliberate on what bag to choose. The WOC makes that choice for me. I don’t need to think about this bag. I just grab it and go.

You can see more looks styled with my Prada WOC herehere & here.

The Summer Edit

The Summer Edit-8 (1)

Whether you’re looking for the perfect gift, or thinking of adding an item to your own wardrobe, I’ve curated a list of pieces perfect for this summer season.

  1. Rag & Bone Wool Fedora

I’ve been on the search for the perfect wool fedora for a while, and this Rag & Bone one is a definite contender. Though, it is on the pricey side, so I’m also considering less expensive options, like this awesome dupe from Forever 21.

  2. Rebecca Minkoff Georgina

As you may know, I already own the Georgina sandals in black (see them here), but love them so much in this blush color too. They’re perfect for summer and stay comfortable for hours.

  3. Kate Spade Stud Earrings

These Kate Spade studs are the perfect modern twist to a classic pair of pearls.

  4. Topshop Stripe Blouse

How beautiful is this top? It combines the stripes and off-the-shoulder trend together in this lovely top. And it’s only $35!

  5. Kate Spade Knot Bangle

I love this knot bangle from Kate Spade. I think it could look great either on its own or within a stack.

  6. iPhone Case

I really like this GMYLE phone case designed to look like marble. It has great reviews and looks like it’ll add protection and keep the phone stylish at the same time.

  7. Chloe Love Story

I love Chloe perfumes, though I’ve never taken the plunge. But, Chloe’s Love Story might be the one.

Summer Wish List

Nordstrom Anniversary Pre-Sale Picks

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Nordstrom has released its pre-sale catalog for the much-anticipated upcoming anniversary sale and it is loaded with goodies.

I’ve flipped through the e-book and found my favorite picks just for you. Here’s what I’ll be eyeing when the sale starts. Are any of these items on your wish-list?

  1. Voluspa ‘Maison Blanc’ Candle Trio (mini & two-wick)

I love Voluspa candles, and a candle trio like this literally makes the perfect gift. Plus, since it comes in two options, you can choose your price point.

  2. Trish McEvoy Brush Set

How beautiful do these brushes look? I’m pretty picky with the brushes I use, so I don’t tend to go for kits. But this one might be too good to pass up.

  3. Vince Hallie Round Toe Bootie

As much as I may not want to think about the up-coming fall season, it’s always great to plan ahead. And these booties are a great chose if your in the market for a new pair.

  4. UGG Aira Knit Slippers

I’ve had a pair of UGG slippers for years, so I’ll say they’re definitely an investment. They might seem expensive for slippers, but when you think of cost per use… you should get your wear out of them.

  5. NARS Best Cheek Palette

How gorgeous does this palette look? I think it’ll be a great all-round face & cheek palette.

  6. Vince Camuto Barsha Pumps

I love the taupe color of these heels, and I guess I’m not quite ready to move past the lace-up trend, because I’m loving these heels.

  7. Steve Madden Pistol Bootie

I had a few people ask me about my Steve Madden booties from last season, and although they aren’t available anymore, these ones are pretty close. Plus, you can’t really go wrong with booties priced under $100.

  8. Adidas Superstar Sneakers

The adidas sneaker is obviously huge right now. And you can score this pair on sale, so who wouldn’t?

Make sure to check out Nordstrom on July 14th to shop the pre-sale for yourself!
